Grade 1 Learning - "ten in the nest"

Bonjour! The later part of this week we started working on different numbers that make up 10. Students were asked to break apart a train of 10 cubes into two pieces with a partner and explain how many they each had, then record the different combinations that we saw. Next, students were asked to label their drawings with a number. Here are a couple of examples:
Today we learned a new song based on the nursery rhyme "there were ten in the bed" only about baby birds in a nest. The nest starts with ten and each time everyone rolls over and one baby bird falls out. I have been asking 'how many are in the nest?' and 'how many are on the ground?' I then had the class act out the song to practice. We have only done the song one day but your learner might be able to sing it for you!
