Grade 2 learning - building in 3D and exploring tangrams

Bonjour! This week spent some time outside constructing sets of 3D objects and collaborating on some larger 3D objects. The first task was to build a construction using at least 2 three dimensional objects built with packing snow. Here are a few examples:
 Cylinders, rectangular prisms
Cone, two cylinders, rectangular prism
Very decent giant cube, other forms to be added.
The second task was to collaborate to build a large pyramid with a base between 3 and 6 sides. Here are the finished products:
Celui des garçons...
Notice we coloured one side to show it is a triangle very clearly. The yarn is to help make sharp edges.
Celui des filles...
Notice the end of the baseball bat sticking up, and the yarn attached. We had fun making these!
We also explored tangrams which are sets of seven plastic shapes:
We did a few activities with these including filling in puzzles and making small combinations with them to test a partner. They are a good tool to work with spatial sense. Have a great March Break everyone!
