Grade 2 learning - intro to fractions
GBonjour! We have mostly finished working with money up to one dollar and now are beginning to learn about and explore fractions. So far we have done 'in demi' (one half). Students have been representing one half using sets of objects, number lines, areas of shapes, money, volume, and even the clock. We have started talking about Mr Gray doing some yard work for his Mom and Dad and getting a big subway sandwich as a reward for helping. Then there is a knock at the door and a friend shows up to help. How do we share the sandwich fairly? The sandwich is represented by strips of paper but since sandwiches can't be folded, the students have to find the middle using other ways including measuring with rulers. Here is one example of a 'sub' cut into two halves.
