Grade 1 learning - la monnaie
Bonjour! The past two weeks we have been learning about Canadian coin money, focusing on the coins from penny to quarter. One game the students have been playing to practice is called 'Caribou Fou Fou' and could be played at home easily to practice with money. It requires two or more players, a piece of paper for each player, a dice, and some coins including pennies. On their turn, a player rolls the dice and adds that amount of cents to their mat. Once they have 5 or more pennies, they must trade to a nickel, and so on. The first person to reach exactly 25 wins. It can be played starting at 25 and going down to zero, which is more challenging but really good for working on number sense. Enjoy!
