This week the Grade 2's were continuing to estimate and measure shoes in the class that were longer, shorter, and the same length as their own. We used our constructed paper rulers to measure the shoes, the units being 'squares'. When that exploration was done, we moved onto experimenting with ways to measure the distance around an object. We used small bins as the item to estimate and measure using our constructed rulers and string:
There were a few strategies used by the groups to get their measurement. Ask your learner what some of the different ideas were. Next week we will be exploring standard units of length (cm and metre) and then moving on to area. I have sent home some 'measuring homework' today with the paper rulers. Everything is written in English on the page. This is not mandatory to complete, just some extra practice if you would like to do more over the weekend. Please send the paper rulers back on Monday and the sheets as well if you have done work on them. Merci and have a great weekend!
